"GO GREEN ECONOMY! make it, don’t fake it" was successfully organized

The Economic Policy and Competitiveness Research Center (EPCRC) held a workshop successfully on March 6th, 2018. An overall purpose of the workshop was to clarify the current situation of green economy in Mongolia and discuss the next necessary steps.

Additionally, during the workshop, we launched our website www.nogoonhutuch.mn and “Mongolian green economy barometer report 2017” which are the first projects that we accomplished since we became the national hub for Green Economy Coalition (GEC), world’s largest alliance inspiring a transition to a green and fair economy.

During the first session, Ms. Erdenetsetseg, Senior Officer, Green Development Policy and Strategic Planning Department, Ministry of Environment and Tourism made a presentation on “The purpose of environment and green development policy and its implementation”. Also, EPCRC researcher Mr. Zolbayar introduced our website and “Mongolian green economy barometer report 2017”.

During the discussion, government and non-government entities participated as panelists and shared their own views on the topic.

Ms. Bulgan: “There are many people who participated in making green economy policy. This policy was made not just by the government but by everyone in order to give it as many voice as possible. Especially non-government entities and civil society organizations actively participated."

Mr.Khosbayar:  “Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been working on producing eco-products in order to promote sustainable production. Recently, we have issued “Organic Product/Certified organic” label, “Green Hotel” eco-label. We are planning to improve production efficiency and introduce new environmentally friendly technologies to the market."

Ms.Batsanaa: "In 2009, XacBank, Eco-Banking department was established in 2009 and started a full operation in 2011. In October 2016, XacBank became the first private entity from a developing country to receive accreditation from Green Climate Fund which functions by transferring funds from developed to developing countries to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The fund currently has over USD 10 billion pledged. Financial tools available to XacBank include concessionary loans, guarantees and equity."

As mentioned earlier, one of the highlights of the workshop was the launch of our website www.nogoonhutuch.mn. It is important to note in here that contents of our website will not be prepared only by EPCRC, but also by government agencies, private industry, small and medium enterprises and individuals who work on green economy. We will promote their initiatives such as their reports, and workshops by uploading them on our website with their permissions. Thus, we welcome anyone who is trying to contribute to the future of green economy.
